International Space Development Conference Filipino Heritage Night & Fashion Show

One small step for Filipino Heritage Night, one giant leap for Filipinos attending the International Space Development Conference 2018 (ISDC)!

At the ISDC Filipino Heritage Night & Fashion Show organized by the National Space Society, Filipino Heritage Night will have an opportunity to showcase Philippine culture and arts! The evening will feature performances by Filipino American Symphony Orchestra Music Education & Outreach students, vocalists Nayah Damasen, Mikaela Bautista and Christina Blay, singing ventriloquist Shane Selloria, violinist Erica Delos Santos, flautist John Robert Santiago and pianist JP Rogers! Costume and fashion designer Carl Andrada of Carmelo Designs will showcase Philippine-inspired costumes that have gained him acclaim in Los Angeles beauty pageants and fashion shows. Kayamanan ng Lahi, a non-profit cultural organization whose mission is to preserve, promote and present the richness and diversity of Philippine culture through dance and music to educate, entertain and enrich, will also be featured as part of the evening’s highlights. Filipino American actor Reggie Lee is featured as a special guest. Lee has appeared in TV shows and movies such as “Grimm”, “Prison Break” and “Pirates of the Caribbean”. He’ll be a recipient of a Recognition Certificate from Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti.

This International Space Development Conference is another landmark for the National Space Society. This year, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos will receive the prestigious Gerard K. O’Neill Memorial Award for Space Settlement Advocacy at the conference. The ISDC aims to present the latest ideas and plans for space travel, space development and space settlements and to offer an opportunity for Filipinos to meet and hear from high-profile speakers and special guests in space travel, such as legendary astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

Filipino Heritage Night is a collaborative project underwritten by the Historic Filipinotown Neighborhood Council (HiFiNC) through its President Cecilia Ramos and Vice President Leo Pandac, is and supported by the Philippine Consulate Office under the direction of Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz.

Programming is provided by Kayamanan ng Lahi through its leaders Joel and Ave Jacinto and Barbara Ele.

Proceeds benefit Historic Filipinotown Festival 2018 and the HiFiTown Gateway West Project.

After auditions, FASO tapped talented Shane Cabellon, Nayah Damasen, Janelle Feraro and Riley Silos as youth guest performers. An exciting lineup of adult guest performers will be announced soon.

“Shane is a 10-year-old ventriloquist who sings very well,” said Louie Ramos, FASO’s vice president and one of the show’s arrangers. “He went through regular FASO auditions and competed against topnotch singers who sing in the usual way, with their mouths open.”

Ramos added, “We have always featured kids in our concerts. In our interaction with the children’s parents, we noticed that these dads and moms are talented singers, too. So we will be featuring them in a group number.”
