Launched in 2008, the Filipino American Symphony Orchestra (FASO) is the first and only Filipino orchestra outside of the Philippines. FASO’s body of musicians come from a variety of professions and musical backgrounds. It is our goal to cultivate Filipino artistry. And to develop love and pride not only in our music, but also in our Filipino identity.
Winner of the 2017 San Diego Fil-Am Humanitarian Foundation’s Historical Heritage Excellence Award, FASO exists for future generations of Filipino-Americans and the global Filipino community. With our Education & Outreach Program and concert series, we promote the rich artistic and cultural traditions of the Philippines. And we give Filipino artists wings to fly. The orchestra actively engages and collaborates with local artists from our home base, Southern California, and with artists around the world.
Robert Shroder, winner of 2016 Filipino American Press Club of California's Cultural Show Producer of the Year Award, has served as musical director and conductor since FASO’s inception. "The orchestra not only provides enriching orchestral Filipino music experience to the community, but it also serves as a vehicle for promoting and supporting so many talented Filipino-American musicians and artists," said Shroder.
